Pohanka Automotive Training Center Graduates Eleven Skilled Technicians
On Thursday, September 4, 2025, the Great Hall of the Green Hill County Club was assembled with dignitaries and community leaders for the purpose of celebrating the Pohanka Automotive Training Center Graduation. Eleven young and talented technicians have completed their training, received diplomas, and are now about to embark on their careers. We are excited to have them aboard.
For all those in attendance, it was a good day from the outset. The mighty Wicomico River served as the backdrop against a cloudless sky. Dan Fitzgerald, General Manager of Pohanka Volkswagen of Salisbury, moderated the event as master of ceremonies. In his opening remarks, Mr. Fitzgerald emphasized the importance of preparing for the future, and providing the next generation the purpose and tools to succeed.
“We invest the time and resources to develop talent,” said Mr. Fitzgerald. “And we believe the next generation of leaders is right here at home.”
Mr. Fitzgerald’s observations were enthusiastically reinforced by two elected officials, Senator Mary Beth Carozza and Delegate Sheree Sample-Hughes. Both speakers assured graduates that their futures are bright and they have built strength and a sense of community on Maryland’s Eastern Shore.
A delicious buffet-style lunch was enjoyed by all. Highlights of the meal included roast beef, fresh horseradish sauce, broiled chicken, poached fillet of salmon, steamed potatoes, and cake. Sweetened and unsweetened iced tea were served as refreshments.
Thereafter, the commencement speech was given by Regional Fixed Operations Director Mike Fink. Mr. Fink shared parts of his personal work experience and welcomed graduates into the Pohanka family.
“The most important thing,” noted Mr. Fink, “[is] to become something greater with an organization that has great values, strong leadership and willingness to succeed with their team and community.”
Mr. Fink reminded graduates that as they moved into the workforce, and pursued their careers, they would be faced with choices, and these choices would make a difference not just in their own lives, but in the lives of others.
“Let integrity and responsibility guide you,” advised Mr. Fink. “We you see a shortcut that risks safety or quality, don’t take it. When a problem looks unsolvable, ask for help. Good judgment along with the right choices area as valuable as the tools you invest in, to support your careers.”
Class Valedictorian Marissa Webster spoke about her lifelong passion for fixing cars. The loudest applause of all was then saved for the graduates themselves, as they received their diplomas.
Throughout the morning and running deep into the afternoon, numerous students, guests and supporters took time to thank two people whose vision and purpose made this event possible: Executive Vice President Sandra Angello and Director David White. They are innovators who have built the Training Center from the ground up. Their commitment has made this apprenticeship program perhaps the most successful and effective in the State.

“They are making a big difference,” noted Scott Crabtree, President of the Pohanka Automotive Group, who was in attendance for the ceremony.
Now eleven new technicians are about to make a difference in the workforce. They have earned our confidence and respect. As stated by Director Fink, “[w]e couldn’t be more honored and excited to witness [the class of 2025s’] growth with the rest of our team. . . Be proud of your great accomplishment and know we all are rooting for you.”
